Analysis · U22 prospects
Europe's three readiest prospects all play in one league
It isn't the ACB. One month into 2026/27, the under-22s closest to the top level all play in France, where 20-year-olds get real minutes.

Which European league gives under-22s the most minutes?
France does. The Betclic Elite has 13 under-22s in the rotation, averaging 21.1 minutes, more than any other major domestic league in Europe.
Every club says in October that it believes in young players, and the minutes tell a different story. We counted the under-22s (born 2005 or later) averaging at least 12 minutes in Europe's eight biggest domestic leagues.
| League | U22s in the rotation | Avg minutes |
|---|---|---|
| Betclic Elite (France) | 13 | 21.1 |
| ABA League | 13 | 20.4 |
| Israel | 6 | 19.8 |
| BBL (Germany) | 5 | 17.9 |
| ACB (Spain) | 3 | 13.0 |
| BSL (Turkey) | 3 | 14.9 |
| Serie A (Italy) | 2 | 15.4 |
| GBL (Greece) | 1 | 27.0 |
In Spain and Italy, young players mostly get garbage time. In France they play in the rotation, in games that matter, and they carry the same role into European competition.
That is why all three of our picks play there. It is also why we judged them twice, at home and in the European cups, the one place where players from different leagues face the same opponents.
Why is Mouhamed Faye the readiest of the three?
Faye, Paris Basketball's 21-year-old Senegalese center, is the only U22 among our candidates with a steady EuroLeague role. He played 38 EuroLeague games last season and has opened this one more efficient.
His role says something about the whole competition: no EuroLeague player born in 2007 or later averages 10 minutes a game.
| Competition | Minutes | TS% |
|---|---|---|
| EuroLeague 2026/27 (6 games) | 14.8 | 74.6 |
| Betclic Elite 2026/27 (3 games) | 13.7 | 69.7 |
| EuroLeague 2025/26 (38 games) | 17.2 | 63.7 |
In this season's EuroLeague he averages 4.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and a PIR of 7.5, which ranks in the 65th percentile of the competition.
His limits are also the reason he works. Faye sets screens, rebounds and finishes at the rim, with an 11% usage rate, no three-point attempts in two seasons and 0.3 assists a game.
The TeamKeys similarity engine places him next to Kur Kuath, Eddy Edigin and Johann Gruenloh, reliable rotation bigs rather than stars. Today he is the readiest of the three, and nobody can yet say whether he also has the highest ceiling.
Is Hugo Yimga Moukouri the best prospect in Europe?
If this list ranked the best prospect instead of the readiest, the Nanterre 92 forward would top it. At 18, he sits above the 74th percentile for PIR in both the Betclic Elite and the Champions League.
He is the most consistent player we looked at, with the same efficiency and the same role in each competition.
| Competition | Points | PIR |
|---|---|---|
| Betclic Elite 2026/27 (4 games) | 11.3 | 9.75 |
| Champions League 2026/27 (2 games) | 9.5 | 10.5 |
| Betclic Elite 2025/26 (35 games) | 9.2 | 8.3 |
He did not come out of nowhere this fall. At 17 he had already played 35 Betclic Elite games, with 64.5% true shooting and 41.8% from three.
This season he has added rebounding, 6.8 a game in the league, and has not turned the ball over once in two Champions League games.
The one crack is his outside shot in Europe: 1 of 7 so far, against 46% at home. Seven attempts are too few to read anything into.
How far can Nathan Soliman go?
Further than anyone on this list, in three years. A year ago the JL Bourg forward was playing in the third division, and at 17 he now plays 22 minutes a night in the Betclic Elite.
He shoots 72.2% true shooting there, with a PIR in the 74th percentile. Along the way he dominated the NextGen tournament in Belgrade with 13.5 points, 7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and a PIR of 18.5.
Nobody among our candidates has made a jump this big this fast. Some of it does not work yet, and the cup numbers show where.
Nathan Soliman, JL Bourg (201 cm), 2026/27
In the EuroCup his efficiency drops to 47% and his assists fall from 3.3 to 0.3 a game. In the league he turns the ball over 3.5 times a game, more often than he assists.
Those are the numbers of a player who got the keys earlier than planned. He could be the best on this list by 2029, and today he is also the most exposed.
Which U22 prospects just missed the cut?
Bastien Grasshoff, Amadou Fall and Jahel Trefle came closest, and each one missed for a different reason.
Grasshoff, a 19-year-old Le Mans guard, scores 13 a game on 62.5% true shooting and holds up in the EuroCup with a PIR of 8.0. He is two years older than Yimga Moukouri and plays a level below Faye.
Fall, a 17-year-old Cholet point guard, is the strangest case of the season. In the Champions League he averages 10 points and 4 assists with a PIR of 12.5, the best mark among U22s in the cups.
In the league he plays 6.75 minutes. Watch him to find out who is right, the Champions League or his coach.
Trefle, an 18-year-old Gravelines center, has the best PIR of any U22 in the domestic leagues: 12.25, in the 88th percentile. Gravelines is not in a European cup, so we cannot test him against the same opponents.
What do Faye, Yimga Moukouri and Soliman have in common?
A league that plays them. One has arrived, one is complete and one is still mostly potential, but all three got minutes before they were finished.
Elsewhere, 20-year-olds wait their turn. In France they get it, make mistakes and improve in front of everyone, and Europe notices when they show up in the cups.
Source: TeamKeys, 2025/26 season and 2026/27 season to October 21. Under-22 means born in 2005 or later, and percentiles are relative to each competition, with early-season samples of two to six games per competition.
Questions people ask
Who are the best under-22 basketball prospects in Europe in 2026/27?
After one month of the season, TeamKeys data points to three Betclic Elite players: Mouhamed Faye of Paris Basketball, Hugo Yimga Moukouri of Nanterre 92 and Nathan Soliman of JL Bourg. Faye is the most ready, Yimga Moukouri the most complete and Soliman the highest upside.
Which European league plays young players the most?
The French Betclic Elite. In 2026/27 it has 13 under-22s averaging at least 12 minutes, at 21.1 minutes each. The ABA League also has 13, while the ACB has 3 and the Italian Serie A has 2.
Why judge prospects in the European cups as well as their league?
Domestic leagues differ in level, so the same numbers mean different things in France, Spain or Serbia. In the EuroLeague, EuroCup and Champions League, players from different leagues face the same opponents, which makes their numbers easier to compare.
